Building a Security Program the Institutional Market Can Verify
When capital markets infrastructure provider Templum engaged Soteria in 2021, the challenge was not an absence of security. Templum had strong foundational controls in place. What it did not have was the independently validated, comprehensively documented program that institutional counterparties expect to see before connecting their infrastructure to a partner's.
Working as Templum's virtual CISO partner, Soteria supported a program spanning three years: program development aligned to NIST, a recurring risk assessment process, technical assessments across Templum's Azure and Microsoft 365 environments, annual penetration testing, tabletop exercises, and incident readiness.
The program culminated in SOC 2 Type 2 attestation. A Type 2 report does not evaluate a security program at a single point in time. It evaluates whether controls operated effectively over a full window of 12 months. That distinction is what makes the result meaningful to institutional counterparties, and it is why a Type 2 outcome cannot be produced quickly. It has to be operated.
